Topic: Financial & Estate Planning

About Snip and This Topic:

Snip retired as a colonel after thirty-one years in the USAF. During this time, he began working with his Dad, in 1974, with equity investments.

"He helped him develop his family trust in 1996. Upon retirement from the AF, he went to work for Met Life in retirement and estate planning, working with an attorney who specialized in estate planning. He helped many folks plan their retirement and develop estate plans that protected family assets. Over the years, He recognized that many, if not most, people need to do more planning or preparation for their senior years and their passing, leaving their families with the burden of entirely preventable challenges."

The three necessary documents are:

1. A Durable Power of Attorney allows an incapacitated individual to direct how their assets will be used to care for them.
2. Living Will (Advanced Directive) allows an individual to direct the level of care to be received in extreme medical situations.
3. Will (or Living Trust) ensures that the benefactor determines how their holdings will be distributed to heirs.

When an individual dies, the executor/estate representative faces enormous, sometimes overwhelming, responsibilities. So the final document is a checklist for what must be accomplished before an estate can clear probate.
