After two years, Hart County has finally has a 2011 tax millage approved by the Department of Revenue. At Tuesday’s regular Board of commissioners meeting, county administrator Jon Caime said that tax bills for final 2009, 2010 and 2011 digests would be issued in the coming weeks.
We are now at the final step in this process of catching up on our overdue tax digests, which requires us to adopt a final 2012 millage,” said Caime.
The board approved a rollback final millage of 5.196, which will require an increase in property taxes by 2.97 percent. However, the BOC assures taxpayers that no one will pay any additional taxes for 2012.
Caime said refunds would also be issued in the coming weeks.
The adoption will require three public hearings, which have been scheduled for 6 p.m., Aug. 13, 5:30 p.m., Aug. 27 and 5:30 p.m. Sept. 10 at the Hart County Administration Building.
The board approved to accept bids for turnout gear and pagers for the Hart County Fire Department. The purchases will be funded by SPLOST.
The board delayed approval of a commercial lease for Suite D at the office building located at 162 Cade Street. A medical company had requested to lease the office. However, it was determined that the space may be needed by the district attorney’s office.
The building was donated to Hart County by the Hart County Hospital Authority last year. Since then, the Hart County Appraisel Office has relocated to the building, while voter registration and the registrar’s office are expected to move in the coming months.
According to Hart County attorney Walter Gordon, when the office space was accepted by the county, Suite D was rented by a physician. However, the office has since vacated. If approved, the lease would be $11,520 annually or $920 per month.
The board approved a second reading to accept Ginns Pool Road to the truck traffic ordinance.
The board approved a beer and wine license for M&M Food Mart, owned by Nazmeen Sultana.
