UPDATE - CORPS OF ENGINEERS FEE INCREASE

HCPOA Members and Friends:
We know you are all concerned about the Corps of Engineers threat of massive rate increases. Your HCPOA is working diligently to stay on top of the issue and marshal all available resources.

By way way of clarification, this is not just a Lake Hartwell or Savannah River problem. It encompasses the entire southeast from Charleston, SC to Mobile, AL. The affected bodies of water are listed on the left side of the postcard.

The $835 fee applies to all features you are permitted. So a dock, walkway, underbrushing, electric and lighting will incur a $835 fee upon renewal, beginning on January 1, 2020. If you only have a dock, the fee will be the same.

We have contacted the offices of Doug Collins, David Perdue and Johnny Isakson asking for their assistance.

Many Congressmen and Senators are aware of the problem and some have taken action. Congressman Jeff Duncan R-SC submitted an amendment to the Energy and Water Appropriations Bill that would have banned this rate increase. Doug Collins was a co-sponsor. The Democrats in the House Committee on Rules refused to consider the amendment.

I spoke at length with Bill Kokaly, one of Collins’ field Representatives. He suggested a meeting in August when Congress is not in session. A very tentative date is August 19. He will verify with Doug and his Chief of Staff.

We will keep our members fully apprised of developments as they occur.

Sincerely,
Mike Buckel, President
HCPOA
