Hart County Property Owners' Association

Dedicated to the betterment of Hart County and all of its citizens.

                               PLEASANT SURPRISE FOR MAY

We will not have a public meeting in May due to the Wuhan virus and the susceptibility of our

Senior population. Your Property Owners Association along with the Republican Party have prepared a surprise for you.  You will see Initiative #10 on the  Republican ballot on June 9, or earlier if you the mail-in ballot option or early vote in May.  We are asking you to vote YES or NO to substantially redued senior property taxes, by eliminating the school portion.

Senior property owners in Hart County have over the years financed three to five generations of students in grades K through 12.  Seniors, for the most part, are on fixed incomes and many are hard pressed to meet expenses, including property taxes.  In Hart County, about 70% of our property taxes go to the school system.  Other counties in Georgia have implementd the reduction of property taxes for senior, and Hart County seniors should receive this consideration.

The exact wording of initiative #10 on the ballot follows:

Should the Hart County Tax Code be amended to reduce of eliminate the burden of heavy school taxes upon senior property owners?

This initiative is the first step in implementing this tax reduction.  An overwhelming YES vote will get the attention of the school board and with sufficient public pressure grant the requested tax break.  The proces may take some time so we must remain energized on the issue.  At this time 27 Georgia counties offer some degree of senior discount on school taxes.  The population of these counties represent over 25 % of Georgia's population.

We urge you to vote YE on referendum #10.  You must wade through 9 other initiatives to get to ours so don't get tired or bored before #10.  Since we will not incur significant advertising costs, we are asking for donations.  Please consider making a contribution to the Coalition for Senior Property Tax Relief.  Mail your donations to PO Box 631, Hartwell, GA 30643.

Once again, we look ahead with optimism and expect to hold a regular public meeting of the Hart County Property Owners’ Association on Monday, June 15 at 7:00 pm. It will be a great pleasure to gather again with our community friends and neighbors at our meeting in June. We will keep you informed of any changes to that schedule.

In the meantime
BE SAFE OUT THERE

Thank you to everyone on the front lines of this fight, including our health care workers and all who are keeping food and other necessities stocked and flowing to the rest of us, and to so many others out there showing up to their jobs and keeping our great Country going through this crisis.
